A Message from Our Principal
Dr. Alex Rivera
Dear Jackson Families,
As we plan for a beginning like no other we have ever experienced before, our focus is still on helping every child feel connected with the school, providing challenging and engaging new learning experiences, and strengthening our relationships with one another. We hope that you and your family had an enjoyable and relaxing summer filled with health and happiness. Our time apart has reinforced what I knew all along, that our Jackson community is truly special! I cannot thank everyone enough for helping us get through these past five months.
This past spring challenged our teachers and students to find a new normal for learning and connect in new ways. What I have learned most through this process is how much I appreciate the expertise of our teachers and staff, the ways in which our students continue to work hard to grow, and the little things in life – like giving a hug, a high five, a fist bump, and being able to share laughs within a crowd of people.
Looking ahead, our hope is to build on the tremendous partnerships already forged by our families and school staff to continue growing and enhancing our school environment where respect and hard work are the norms and diversity is recognized and celebrated. The classic themes of respect, responsibility, kindness, and cooperation are integrated into all aspects of our curriculum. The social and emotional development of all students is as important as ever. We will continue our emphasis on developing a responsive classroom that focuses on engaging academics, positive community, effective management, and developmental awareness.
We encourage all of our families to actively participate in the school life of their child and continue building strong relationships with all of the adults working closest with them. In addition, I encourage you to get involved in supporting our PTA who works tirelessly to support George A. Jackson Elementary School throughout the school year. While this year will include more virtual experiences, you can still stay connected with members of our PTA to support some of the behind-the-scenes work that helps to ensure that our students continue to receive a well-rounded educational experience.
As we prepare for the first day of school on Thursday, September 3, a special thank you goes to our custodial staff who have worked these summer months getting our school ready to welcome everyone back. Thank you as well to our Jackson clerical, instructional and non-instructional staff who have been busy preparing classrooms and offices for the arrival of students. A final thank you goes to our Central Administration, Buildings & Grounds, Technology and Transportation Departments, and our Directors and Curriculum Associates for all of their support providing us with a variety of resources and equipment.
On a final note, we invite you to partner with us on what will be a wonderful and rewarding 20-21 school year! Your positive energy and support are both welcomed and appreciated. Together we will prepare our students for the challenges and successes ahead while helping them think critically, and problem-solve to meet and overcome any challenge they may face. We are glad that you have made George A. Jackson Elementary School your home!
